Father’s Day 2011 was an amazing day @ Crossover Church. We continued our series on 1 Peter… and we were in Chapter 2 verses 13-25 that talked about learning to respect authority and go through suffering as we follow the example of Christ. Then my wife chopped up the second part of the message in Chapter 3:1-7 where she addressed wives and husbands. She was killing it as she got real with the ladies and the men. I’m so proud of my wife to see how God is shaping her and using her as she’s now an incredible communicator! We prayed for the dads at the end and then Tyrone Evans aka Michael Tarver from WWE came up and did a set. Everyone was feeling his huge passion that was even bigger than his frame.
It’s great to be leading a church in the urban community that has lots of men. Father’s Day in many churches (esp. in the urban community) can be pretty empty as many men don’t come to church. Crossover is not your average statistic as it’s full of young, urban, multi-ethnic men… many of them didn’t have fathers or good examples of fathers, but with Christ’s help they are breaking the cycle. Big ups to all the Crossover men creating a new legacy. Big ups to all the older men at Crossover pouring into younger men and showing them how real men and real fathers roll!
